Why tajweed is not a decoration
Recitation without tajweed is a house without walls. On the difference between reading the Quran and truly reciting it.
Some students think tajweed is an ornament — something added at the end, once the surahs are memorised. In reality it is the shape of the recitation itself. Without it, the words are still there, but the meaning has quietly shifted.
The rules were not invented by scholars. They were extracted, over centuries, from listening carefully to how the Prophet ﷺ recited, and how his companions preserved that recitation on their tongues.
This is why tajweed is learned by ear, not only by book. A student who reads the rules but does not sit before a teacher will always mispronounce the letters that look easy on the page.
Give the letters their right. Every ḥarf has a home in your mouth — a makhraj — and every home has a door that opens differently. Learn where each letter lives, and the recitation begins to breathe.
