A day in the life of a Quran teacher
From dawn revision to evening halaqas — the quiet rhythm of teaching the Book, one āyah at a time.
The day begins before the day begins. A cup of water, wudū, and the first pages — revision of what I fear losing, and preparation of what I will pass on today.
The early students come first. Children whose voices are still finding their footing. I listen more than I correct. A gentle ear at this age builds a lifelong love; a heavy hand builds a lifelong fear.
Midday is for adults — reverts, professionals, mothers stealing an hour between children. Every session is different. Every session asks for a different kind of patience.
Between lessons: a short walk, a glass of tea, and a page of my own revision. The teacher who stops being a student stops being a teacher.
The evening halaqa is my favourite. A small circle, a single surah, and an hour that never feels like an hour. This is the work I was made for.
