Ustaz Quran Academy is a Minnesota-based online Quran academy dedicated to helping children, teens, and adults build a lifelong relationship with the Book of Allah.
Through personalized one-on-one instruction, qualified native Arabic-speaking teachers, and authentic Islamic scholarship, we serve students across the United States, Canada, and around the world.
Under the academic supervision of Sheikh Mahmoud Youssef Ellaboudy, our academy combines the timeless tradition of Quran education with the flexibility of modern online learning, offering Quran Reading, Tajweed, Hifz, and Ijāzah programs for learners at every stage.
Our Story ( started in 2008)
Ustaz Quran Academy was founded on a simple belief:
Every Muslim deserves the opportunity to learn the Quran from qualified teachers, regardless of where they live.
For many families living outside the Muslim world, finding knowledgeable teachers who combine authentic scholarship with patience and excellent communication can be challenging.
Our academy was established to bridge that gap by bringing experienced Quran teachers directly into students' homes through personalized online learning.
Today, we continue that mission by helping learners of every age build confidence, consistency, and a lifelong relationship with the Quran.
Meet the Founder
Sheikh Mahmoud Youssef Ellaboudy
Sheikh Mahmoud Youssef Ellaboudy was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Education and a diploma from the Preachers Institute. After memorizing the Holy Quran, he was granted an Ijāzah in the Ten Qirā'āt, authorizing him to teach the authentic methods of Quranic recitation through an unbroken chain of transmission.
Sheikh Mahmoud began his teaching career at Al-Azhar, where he taught the Quran before serving in several renowned Quran institutes throughout Egypt. After relocating to the United States, he continued his lifelong dedication to Quran education by teaching in Islamic schools, mosques, and community centers across the country.
His academic contributions include lecturing on Tajweed at the Islamic University of Minnesota, where he also served as Supervisor of the Ijāzah Program. He later became Principal of the Al-Jazari Institute for Qur'anic Studies, overseeing its Ijāzah Program and mentoring students pursuing advanced Quranic studies. He also played a leading role in establishing the Hifz Program at an Islamic school in Minnesota, a program he continues to supervise today.
Over the years, Sheikh Mahmoud has taught students of all ages and backgrounds, guiding many to complete the memorization of the Holy Quran and earn their Ijāzah. His passion extends beyond teaching; he has authored articles and educational research on effective Quran instruction, with a particular focus on helping non-Arabic speakers memorize and understand the Quran with confidence and excellence.
Today, his vision continues through Ustaz Quran Academy, where he mentors teachers, develops academic standards, and strives to make authentic Quran education accessible to learners worldwide.

Credentials
What does “Ustaz” mean?
In Arabic, Ustaz (أستاذ) is a title given to a teacher or scholar. It comes from a Persian word that originally referred to someone with deep expertise in a subject. Today, the term is used for respected teachers and professors in many parts of the Muslim world.
At Ustaz Quran, we use this title to reflect both scholarship and service: a teacher who is grounded in traditional knowledge and dedicated to guiding students gently, one ayah at a time.
